wedding wednesday: favors

Favors are pretty standard at two things: weddings and children’s parties. And generally you walk away thinking, wow I didn’t need *fill in the blank.* But what if favors were awesome and something you looked forward to (I’ve been pondering this with the 50th Bday Party Planning).

My friend Lauren (whose wedding I coordinated in May), gave away caramels from the Caramel Jar. Let’s just say, I may have swiped an extra or two.

When my aunt got married (way back when) every guest received a mini-pumpkin bread and a recipe card to go with it. A friend gave away home-brewed beer at her wedding this past April.

Recently, Southern Weddings Magazine has featured multiple “favor” spreads on their blog (some from Vol. 4) that gift such joys as…

biscuits,

barbecue sauce,

and sweet tea.

The options are endless, but if I can just point out one thing…they all are food related.

What are the best favors you have received, either at a wedding, event or favorite childhood party? Or, what are the best ones you have given?

christmas: diy mini-trees

When you’re planning a Christmas party, all sorts of fun DIY stuff jumps out and grabs a hold of you.

Today’s amazing DIY item comes from the Sweetest Occasion. If only I could make it at my desk while at the office, but maybe instead it can be my “on the bus” project…(fastest way to annoy my seatmate, hi Linds!)

Because who doesn’t need adorable mini-trees made from paper.

must have monday: inspiration

The thanksgiving turkey and the subsequent shopping that followed has pulled my blogging inspiration from my head (that being said, I have posts for the rest of the week ready to go).

I’m working on a new project that I can’t wait to share, but until that times comes, I thought I would share some of the images that are currently inspiring, some you’ve seen, but others are just the current love.

planning a party: decor

This December I get the great joy of hosting two parties, one being my house Christmas party and the other being my mom’s 50th Birthday party. I am super excited, but I also have ten days to get the first round of decorations completed.

I love all of these decor/background ideas and would love to incorporate them all (in some way, shape or form) into my party ideas. Or I’ll just pick and chose for each event.

happy peacock blue friday.

The family + sarah decided this morning that we were renaming today, because black friday just sounds so dark. So pick your favorite color and confuse every retail worker out there.

I however, think that now is a great time to support all the small businesses out there with amazing products. Some of my favorites:

Hand & Cloth, with their amazing Kantha Blankets

Scarf Shop, must I explain such a wonderful scarf-ness.

skinny laminx, a South Africa pattern designer with a variety of table lines, pillows, etc

maptotes, from amazing locale-centric gifts…this is your go-to

1canoe2, an awesome etsy letterpress vendor

nourishing notes, a foodie-friendly vendor that provides great letterpressed cards

makecheese, an etsy vendor with cheese-making kits. creative Xmas present? i think yes

Is there a small business shop out there that you love? I would love to hear more about it as I continue the never-ending search for awesome and unique gifts.

wedding wednesday: brunch, anyone?

This wedding caught my eye because of the awesome location, a great looking couple and well, a long table.

I stayed on it, because of the menu. Brunch food, anyone?

When I first saw it, I thought it was a brunch wedding (which is an amazing idea that Dawn talks about on a regular basis). But actually, it’s a breakfast for dinner wedding. I love the unique food ideas, and have plenty of other interesting event food posts in my head. But I’m curious…

…what is the most unique food that you’ve had at an event/wedding?

party planning: paperless post

Dear Paperless Post,

I love you a lot. Evite has grown to disappoint me, and I always avoided you cause I needed to pay for it. But lo and behold, today I discovered that you have free options (did you hear world, FREE I tell you). I don’t think I could possibly get any more excited then I was in that moment.

And then, it got better.

My details page wouldn’t save. I emailed customer help. I was actually emailed back. Aya, thank you for being the best customer service rep EVER! For emailing me back THREE times today. For changing around my invite for me and being willing to change things when I had a “oh no I forgot!” moment. You were amazing.

You have restored my faith in online invites. As if I didn’t love Paperless Post for it’s awesome design options, now I love it for it’s awesome design options AND Aya.

Thank you so much.

must have monday: white ceramic

I was all set to write a post on fun patterned items found on etsy, and then designlovefest stole my focus with this:

I am loving everything about this. Something about solid white ceramics makes even the most kitsch items seem classy, you know, like this coaster set and S&P shaker set.
